The Women of Heritage Packaging Celebrate Barbie!

Where did summer go?

Summer came and went in a flash that was as pink as anti-static poly. Plastics were the talk of the plant over the past few months, but not in the way we typically discuss them at Heritage Packaging...

Did you know that we make form-fit container liners for dry flowables that often contain goods like pelletized resins- raw materials that are molded into millions of items including…dolls?

Barbies dressed as packaging professionals

What can we learn from Barbie?

Our production floor was buzzing all summer long with discussions of the "Barbie" movie- who had seen it, why it was liked or disliked, and whether or not it was worth the hype. Whether or not you played with her as a child, it seems everyone has something to say about this iconic figure. Not everyone sees Barbie as the perfect package, but one thing we do love is that she encourages girls to discover careers where women are traditionally underrepresented.

While there are many women excelling in the packaging sector, the flexible packaging industry remains male-dominated. According to the US Department of Commerce, in 2022 women made up "about 47% of the American workforce but only 30% worked in manufacturing".

While we have yet to see Machine Operator Barbie, Fabricator Barbie, or Packaging Engineer Barbie, we are excited that she's held positions in several STEM careers and hope that helps pave the way for more girls to investigate, explore, and discover job opportunities they may not have considered before.

The Women of Heritage!

At Heritage Packaging, we’re proud to employ over 20 women who help make us a successful business. From fabricators and machine operators to quality control, packaging engineers, marketers, designers, accountants, administrators, support staff, the CFO, business co-owner, and more- there is so much opportunity for females in our typically male-dominated industry.

As we reflect on a busy summer of manufacturing flexible pouches, liners, and covers, and as we head into a season full of gratitude, we are thankful for our team and particularly grateful for the meticulous and industrious ladies we work with every day!
