Hiring: Automatic Pouch Machine Set-up
& Troubleshooting Technician

📍 Location: Heritage Packaging, 625 Fishers Run, Victor, NY
💰 Pay Range: $26.00 - $34.00/hr (based on experience)
📅 Employment Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt

The Auto Pouch Machine Set-Up & Troubleshooting Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of automatic flexible packaging equipment. This role ensures machines run safely, efficiently, and within quality specifications while supporting operators and assisting with equipment improvements and preventative maintenance. 

Machine Setup & Operation

  • Set up and operate automatic flexible packaging
    and pouch-making equipment. 

  • Load materials and configure machine parameters, including heat, pressure, dwell, web tension, blade angle, and speed, etc.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and work instructions to determine machine setup and production sequence. 

  • Monitor machine performance and make real-time adjustments to maintain optimal production conditions. 

Production & Quality

  • Monitor product quality during production and make adjustments within defined parameters. 

  • Work closely with Quality personnel and provide product samples for testing as required. 

  • Package and label products according to work instructions and customer specifications. 

  • Record production and material usage accurately according to established procedures. 

Troubleshooting & Equipment Support

  • Diagnose machine issues and perform minor repairs and adjustments. 

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance on major repairs and equipment improvements. 

  • Assist with machine upgrades and continuous improvement activities. 

  • Recover usable machine parts and assemblies from retired equipment when appropriate. 

Preventative Maintenance

  • Participate in preventative maintenance activities and document completed work. 

  • Cross-train with the Preventative Maintenance Mechanic to provide operational coverage when needed. (Help that individual increase his/her knowledge of auto equipment) 

Team Support
Serve as a technical resource to machine operators during machine setup and operation. 

  • Assist with operator training and skill development. 

  • Cross-train on related equipment, including slitters, rewinders, sheeters, fitment inserters, and zipper attachment systems. 

  • Support team productivity by maintaining a cooperative and positive work environment.

Safety & Workplace Organization

  • Operate equipment safely and follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). 

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. 

  • Ensure machine guards and safety devices are properly in place during operation. 

Communication 

  • Keep the Production Supervisor informed of production progress, issues, and equipment needs. 

  • Communicate effectively with production, maintenance, engineering, and quality teams. 

 

Qualifications

Education / Training 

  • Degree in Engineering Science, Mechanical Technology, Instrumentation & Control Technologies; or 

  • Completion of a Mechatronics Technology program; or 

  • Equivalent technical training or experience. 

Experience 

  • Minimum four years’ operating automated manufacturing equipment. 

  • Experience with automatic pouch machines preferred. 

Skills & Abilities 

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills. 

  • Ability to read blueprints and technical specifications. 

  • Strong attention to detail and quality. 

  • Ability to monitor multiple machine functions simultaneously. 

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills. 

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Manufacturing environment with moving equipment and production machinery. 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods. 

  • Ability to lift materials and machine components as required.
