Boil-In-Bags for Freeze-Dried and Dehydrated Foods

Durable boil-in-bag packaging trusted by military, food service, and outdoor markets

Boil-in-bags (BIBs) are a smart, efficient way to package dehydrated, freeze-dried, or crystallized products. Produced from high-barrier materials, these bags lock in freshness, extend shelf life, and keep contents protected until it’s time to prepare a meal.

A common application is powdered eggs. With a convenient fitment on the front of the bag, water is added to rehydrate the product. Once the air is pressed out and the cap is secured, the entire bag is placed into boiling water for quick, safe preparation. In just minutes, the contents are hot and ready to serve.

For consumers, BIBs are lightweight, compact, and simple to use, making them a go-to choice for outdoor activities like camping, hunting, and backpacking. On a larger scale, these bags are trusted by institutions and the military to rehydrate bulk freeze-dried foods. In fact, “egg bags” have become a standard in field rations, giving soldiers a fast way to enjoy hot scrambled eggs in challenging conditions. Food service operations, such as hotels and buffets, also rely on powdered eggs packaged this way because of their long shelf life, cost savings, and ability to be prepared in large volumes.

To further protect sensitive contents, boil-in-bags are often paired with overwrap bags, which provide an additional layer of barrier protection and help extend shelf life even longer. This dual packaging approach ensures that products remain safe, fresh, and stable from production through end use.
