C-130 Engine Intake & Exhaust Barrier Covers
“C-130 Hercules Aircraft Intake & Exhaust Barrier Covers”
High Performance Protective Packaging Proven Solution

Application
During periods when aircraft are undergoing extensive maintenance and or engineering upgrades, their engines and engine subsections must be protected from corrosion. The gas path, or area between the intake and exhaust ports, must be conditioned and kept at a humidity level below 40%. In this case the USAF Series C-130J aircraft with four Allison turbo-prop engines needed a preservation system.
Solution
Heritage Packaging designed and fabricated contoured, “glove fit,” covers from Cepac 113 & 143 barrier laminations. Each cover has a one way valve installed that allows the gas path to be conditioned by nitrogen purging and vacuum evacuation. Each aircraft is supplied with a “Ship Set” kit containing four intake covers, four exhaust covers, eight one way valves, 48 vacuum packed 16 unit desipaks, and non-corrosive tape used to form an airtight installation of the covers. Desiccants are inserted through both the intake and exhaust ports. Covers are installed, nitrogen is pumped in at one end while evacuation occurs at the other; conditioning the gas path. A < 40% humidity level must be maintained.
Results
Intermittent monitoring of the humidity levels produces readings that are consistently below 20%.
